Contributor Pie

A fair way to build The Button Factory together

Do the work.
Own a piece.

20%for the team

Your approved points decide how the yellow piece is shared.

We are setting aside 20 out of every 100 company shares for people who help build the business while accepting less than the full market value of their work.

The simple version

Four steps. One shared pie.

01

Agree on the work

We agree on the job, its market value and what can be paid now.

02

Do and log it

You record approved hours and one clear note about what you completed.

03

Get cash + points

The unpaid part of the work earns pie points at twice its value.

04

Points become shares

When the business becomes sustainable, the final split is locked.

One person. One job.

Points are a score—not shares. Everyone’s approved points go into one total. If John owns 1 in every 10 points when the pie bakes, he receives 1 in every 10 shares from the 20% pool: 2% of the company.

A clear finishing line

The pie bakes when the business is sustainable.

Button Factory must be able to pay for the business and its people without relying on more unpaid work.

All operating costs are covered
Ongoing work can be paid at market rates
The result holds for 13 steady weeks
An eight-week operating reserve is held

A major investment or sale can also trigger an earlier bake. Approved points are then checked, locked and converted into the contributor team’s share of the 20% pool.

After the bake

Keep your shares.

Future work is paid at the agreed market rate. Shareholders may receive dividends when a safe, lawful dividend is declared; a payment is not guaranteed.

The next chapter

Choose to invest again.

A separate, capped Future Growth Pool can open. People may keep their full pay or voluntarily invest an agreed amount without reopening the first pie.
